Key Stage 3

ICT

The Key Stage 3 programme allows our pupils to develop a sound knowledge of ICT.  It is aimed at developing skills in the use of a range of software as well as to gain an excellent knowledge of IT concepts.  Pupils use a wide range of software including:

Mediator

 

Key Stage 4

CCEA GCSE Applied Business Studies

Business Studies give insights into how and why businesses operate.  It helps you develop understanding of how decisions are made and how they affect people.  The course covers a broad range of business related topics and enables students to understand the wide, varied role of business in today’s society.  Industrial visits and guest speakers are used regularly to consolidate learning.

The course is 60% controlled assessment and 40% examination.

GCSE Applied Business is divided into seven themes:

  • Business Start Up;
  • Production;
  • Finance;
  • Marketing;
  • Managing People;
  • Business Growth; and
  • Business Plan.

 

CCEA GCSE ICT

GCSE ICT is aimed at developing skills in the use of a range of software as well as to gain an excellent knowledge of IT concepts.  It allows students to become more independent and discerning users of ICT who can make informed decisions about its use.  They take a practical approach, developing and evaluating ICT-based solutions of their own to solve problems. At the same time, they focus on ensuring that their practice is safe, secure and responsible.

The course is 60% controlled assessment and 40% examination.

GCSE ICT is divided into 3 themes:

  • Tools and Applications
  • Using Multimedia and Games Technology
  • Understanding ICT Systems in Everyday Life and Its Implications for Individuals, Organisations, Society and the Wider World.

 

Occupational Studies in Business & Services

The world of work is constantly changing and so it’s vital that we are able to transfer and adapt our knowledge and skills throughout our careers.

Occupational Studies in Business & Services allows learners to learn for work, through work and about work.

Throughout Year 11 & 12 pupils complete the units of Modern Retailing & Using Office Technology, which are both 100% portfolio based.  Learners must pass both units to achieve a qualification.

 

Key Stage 5

CCEA GCE Applied Business

Applied Business provides students with a better understanding of business through active participation in the business environment. Students are encouraged to gain practical, presentational, personal, interpersonal and cognitive skills and recognition of social and ethical issues in business.

CCEA GCE Applied ICT

Applied ICT prepares students for a world increasingly dominated by the use of ICT systems.  The course motivates students to achieve the best they can and empowers them to take charge of their own learning and development.  Applied ICT’s practical and skills-based approach ensures that students develop a real understanding of ICT that directly relates to the needs of employers.
